<persName xml:lang="ota-Latn-x-lc" key="local:mid:340" type="supplied">Bālī</persName> is known as the translator
of the <title xml:lang="ota-Latn-x-lc" key="lccn:sh90002610">Kitāb-ı Güzīde</title>. Nothing is known about him
except for his name mentioned in the introduction of that work. In most of the copies of the work his name is
vocalized as Muḥammed. <persName xml:lang="tur" ref="http://viaf.org/viaf/59102919" key="lccn:n82246239" type="alt">Fuat Köprülü</persName> guesses that the translation must date back to <date calendar="Gregorian" notBefore="1300" notAfter="1499">late 14th or early 15th century</date>. Due to the fact that the earliest
copy known of the <title xml:lang="ota-Latn-x-lc" key="lccn:sh90002610">Kitāb-ı Güzīde</title> is written in
<date calendar="Hijri-qamari" when="1435">838</date>, it is possible to suggest that <persName xml:lang="ota-Latn-x-lc" key="local:mid:340" type="supplied">Bālī</persName> was active sometime before this date.

<note>The original work was written by <persName xml:lang="ota-Latn-x-lc" key="local:mid:341" type="supplied">Abū Naṣr b. Ṭāhir b. Muḥammed es-Saraḫsī</persName> in olġa bolġa (Old Eastern) Turkish, probably dating back
to between <date calendar="Gregorian" notBefore="1000" notAfter="1299">11th-13th century</date>.
<persName xml:lang="ota-Latn-x-lc" key="local:mid:340" type="supplied">Bālī</persName> notes that he translated
it into a lucid Turkish (of his time) in the introduction. The work, consisting of 46 sections, is written for
the common folk, gives basic information about the principles of Islam.</note>
