The current version of OSDCloud pings Google to validate internet connectivity. But we're also using OSDCloud in mainland China where you can't ping Google. Can I suggest using Microsoft's own connectivity test since this tool is used to download/install Windows? It's available at http://www.msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt and hosted globally over Akamai.
