I really don't like how we use YY.m.d without zero-padding!

Probably, the first release in 2024 will switch to having zero-padding on the month and day.

Omg switching to zero padding is causing build problems. I'm pretty frustrated at Python's build tools.

  1. The wheel output has the canonical version, which strips zero padding.
  2. Adding zero padding requires new libraries (calver), which require new python functions just to add dev or rc tags.
  3. It's just a mess.
