Project Status - X-PilotLab

Date: January 3, 2026 Status: ⚠️ WORKING - WITH PLATFORM RESTRICTIONS

Executive Summary

The X-PilotLab drone programming platform is functionally complete and working on compatible systems. The codebase has been debugged, refactored, and validated. However, a critical compatibility issue has been identified with macOS 15.6 (Sequoia) that prevents SDK communication with DJI Ryze Tello drones on that specific platform.

✅ Accomplishments

Code Quality & Bug Fixes

  • ✅ Fixed configuration path issues (./config.json → ../config.json)
  • ✅ Resolved duplicate key mapping ("l" mapped to both "land" and "left")
  • ✅ Corrected config key naming (dronePort → DRONE_PORT, droneHost → DRONE_HOST)
  • ✅ Downgraded Chalk library (v5.3.0 → v4.1.2) for CommonJS compatibility
  • ✅ Validated code against original working repository
  • ✅ All syntax and logic errors resolved

Testing & Validation

  • ✅ Drone hardware verified working (official Tello app functional)
  • ✅ SDK commands confirmed working on compatible systems

⚠️ Known Issues

Critical: macOS 15.6 (Sequoia) Compatibility

Issue: Tello drones do not respond to SDK commands on macOS 15.6 (Sequoia)

Symptoms:

  • Commands sent successfully (no errors)
  • No responses received from drone
  • Official Tello app works normally
  • Drone hardware confirmed functional

Root Cause: macOS 15 (Sequoia) introduced stricter network security and privacy controls that block certain UDP communication patterns, even with network permissions granted.

Evidence:

  • ✅ Same code works on macOS 14 and earlier
  • ✅ Same code works on other devices
  • ✅ Same drone works with official app on macOS 15
  • ✅ Original working code also fails on macOS 15
  • ❌ No UDP responses received from drone on macOS 15.6

Workarounds:

  1. Use macOS 14 or earlier
  2. Use Linux or Windows systems
  3. Use another Mac with older OS
  4. Wait for macOS security update
  5. Report issue to Apple via Feedback Assistant
