Incorporating Interaction Events

In the list of activity categories (section 5.1),
Herbert mentioned: "I think we are missing one, for the good reason that we have not explicitly discussed these, i.e. the "interaction events" from the Mellon proposal such an commenting, annotating, liking, etc. They are a one-way communication pattern thing but most likely use different activity types."

While I agree this is an important category, I had trouble adding this to the current document. The document currently mentiones the two categories "activities about artefacts" and "activities pertaining to added-value services", which are distinct in the as:Activity types that can be used. The first category contains Create, Remove, Update, Announce.

In AS, only liking and disliking have their own activity type. Actions like commenting and annotating would be a Create activity with a comment or annotation as object. Basically, in the current spec, the latter would be part of the "activities about artefacts" category, so I don't know if it makes sense to have a separate category just for liking and dislinking. Also, I'm not sure how cross-usecase 'interaction events' are.

My proposal would be to add this to a more detailed description of the "activities about artefacts" category.

I've talked with people from the IIIF community who have very much interest in what we are doing. In the use-case memory institutions are publishing IIIF Manifests (which enable image content such as old manuscripts to be published online). Based on this IIIF manifest research can be done in the form of annotations, which can be resulted into a notification in an inbox of the IIIF Manifest producer "Someone wrote about your manifest".

I do think that these interaction events are part of broader use-cases and isn't about social events such as "Like" or "Dislike". In boarder light, these are scholarly activities ..there is no clear boundary where erfgoed and scholarly activities and: they might overlap.
