Parts used in retrieval contracts bug out. #25

I was given a contract to recover an unknown part (turned out to be a GantryLargeScaleable) left orbiting Eve. The part had bizarre orbital behaviour that made intercept almost impossible. There were NULL pointer exceptions in the debug log too, though it's not clear they were related.
The part seemed to have two different positions - when I finally visually got to the part, KSP claimed I had a relative velocity of 3200m/s even though I had just gently bumped into it visually.
I couldn't grab it with the Claw anyway.
I edited the sfs to change it to a small stock fuel tank and started again from before attempting to intercept and all worked fine.
Is it possible to flag parts as inappropriate for such mission? Alternatively, I can send the sfs if that would help making such things work.
