FFB non fuctional on T248

I've recently moved to Arch Linux looking to improve the performance of my games, like Beam.NG Drive. However, the FFB doesn't seam to work on Linux with my Thrustmaster T248.

The issue that I can make out this that either the wheel doesn't detect the game or vice versa. Therefore the wheel just automatically centers itself as if it was on standby.

I have tried to use oversteer and reinstalled the Linux kernel module for Thrustmaster countless time with no results.

Apologies for my bad explanation as I'm not very tech savvy and is new to Linux. However, I have attached a link to a YouTube video that I have made showing my problem.

I have yet to try any other games.

Please help as I really don't want to go back to Windows if I can avoid it.

Hello, here are a couple things to check off the top of my head:

• Is your wheel in the PC mode? The T248 has a couple different modes that you can switch between via the on-wheel controls, but currently only the PC seems to function properly with this driver: Support other wheel modes with T248 #64

• Check if the first bullet point in https://github.com/Kimplul/hid-tmff2?tab=readme-ov-file#common-issues-and-notes about open_mode does anything, symptoms sound fairly similar.

• Do you have other games to test with? BeamNG has been the topic of issues a fair few times in the past, see FBB stops working from the moment I launch beamng. #83, No FFB in BeamNG #68 and BeamNG sees wheel but does not detect input #106 for example.

• What does sudo dmesg -w report when you plug in the wheel?

• Where there errors during the installation procedure?

Having the same issue with WRC10. Tried all the suggestions above but non of them worked (also installed the driver with protontricks)

@John-Development Is it just WRC10 or do you have other games to test with? I believe this is the first time WRC10 has been brought up so I don't really know how well it is supposed to work. According to ProtonDB, the T300 apparently also has issues with the game so it might be something funky with it (or Proton, I suppose).

Nah, that's expected if you don't sign your modules. Does not affect functionality in any way, it's just a kind of security measure.

I tried with Dirt rally and Grid 2 (the only other two racing games I have) and non of them even detected the controller (even installing the driver for each of them individually) so I imagine they are a bit old to even be compatible...

Dirt Rally works fine on my machine, haven't tried Grid 2 so I can't really say much about it, unfortunately. Detecting the wheel is a somewhat separate issue from having working FFB, there are a few open issues related to Steam games not detecting input, see #132 for example. I patched SDL a little while back which fixed some games, but I would expect it to be present in Kubuntu 25.10, so not sure if that's related.

You can try some non-steam games, like SpeedDreams, to help narrow this issue down to Steam versus non-steam, at least. Also, did you use Proton for Dirt Rally or the native version? The native version has some other issues so I've just used Proton for it.

Yeah, at first I used the native version and it crashed so I changed to Proton. Not sure why it is failing to detect it...
Tested SpeedDreams and seems to be working fine, at least it responds to some level. Also tried WRC9, I have it in the heroic launcher (in amazon), works the same as the steam WRC10 (no FFB). Might be a game thing :(

Just tested project cars 2 in steam (didnt remember I had it) and FFB works perfectly. Tweaking through the config of WRC10 just found that although it is applying a Thrustmaster config, is not able to recognize that the controller has FFB, and the FFB toggle is disabled (tooltip says something like: This option is only available for controllers with force feedback)

Could be that the game has some internal list of controllers it considers 'wheels' and the T300 on Linux doesn't fulfill all the requirements, whatever those may be. Possibly something to take up with the Proton folks?
