On Android 14, after boot up, the app has to be manually opened in order for it to start working. Only has to be done once per boot.

I've noticed the same, even on Android 13. Also the app sometimes hang on "Connecting to service..." when opening, so I have to force close it and next time it'll launch fine.

Do you ever have to clear cache, as well?

I have found on A14 that it takes a while, but always eventually loads. Pixel 5. Results may vary.
