The daily Codex pain points that keep burning time

Using Codex every day has made a few failure modes painfully clear for me:

• drift away from the actual ask after a few steps
• contamination across repos or instruction layers that should have stayed separate
• noisy scratch artifacts, over-logging, or cleanup work that creates more work
• token burn from doing the wrong thing confidently, then needing to unwind it
• too much time spent reconstructing state after the run already went sideways

The frustrating part is not that mistakes happen. It is that the same classes of mistakes keep showing up in ways that are expensive to catch late.

What I want from the tool is boring reliability:

• stay inside the repo and scope you were actually given
• refuse to invent progress
• stop early when context is weak instead of spending 20 more minutes digging the hole deeper
• make cleanup first-class when the run created noise
• leave behind a short, honest record of what happened and what needs repair

If you use Codex heavily, I’d love to hear which failure mode costs you the most time right now.

One thing I’m trying to do differently now is separate two asks:

• first: tell me the exact failure mode that keeps costing you time
• only later: if this problem set feels real to you too, support the repo however you want

For me the strongest support signal is not generic hype. It is one of:

• a star if the problem itself matters
• a blunt comment with the failure mode you most want governed away
• a note on where the current boundary still feels too soft

That helps me tell the difference between “interesting idea” and “people are actually living this pain every week.”
