Worked On

• Helped a bit on Safari styling errors #435
• Started tossing around ideas on a Home page design.
• Wrote a little React hook sketch for keyboard shortcuts in CodeSandbox to understand them a bit more, then looked up a proper package to do it better. I recommend react-hotkeys-hook.
  • Also read about Mousetrap which would be cool because it supports key chord shortcuts like how GitHub's work (press g and then press i), but I don't think we need support for that really since the key experience is an editor and you don't want any key chords in there, so we can just get by with {modifier} + {letter} combos.
  • Think we could define an exported JS object with all the hotkeys for a given view either all in a ./lib/hotkeys.js, as well as an exported callback to use react-hotkeys-hook to iterate over the config object to load all the relevant callbacks.
    • However, the config object might need to be built within the view's react component itself in order to have access to UI updating hooks, so I'd love your thoughts on that structure.
    • Might be good to architect this keeping in mind the potential ability to set custom keybindings for users, but I don't know how opinionated users will be about that, I just suspect it might be a lot since CAD can be such a shortcut-heavy endeavor.
  • Actually did research and wrote for the blog, been working on it today and will have a PR to @Irev-Dev in the next day or two.
    Will Work On
• Codesandbox of r3f animations in the home page style we discussed.
• Redesign of Home page.
• Any frontend initiatives we need, like Viewer/Editor styling tweaks, or Settings tray scaffolding?
  • will update styling of Share modal to latest design look.

• have a PR from Google Summer of Code last year about cache storage supports local storage and Redis. Not sure how much helpful it would be.
  • @Irev-Dev agrees it might be hard under the current architecture, but he's not sold on the docker-lambda architecture, so open to try new things.
• suggested adding a tag about this integration or customizer stuff to prioritize the work right now?
  • @Irev-Dev would put performance above customizer. It feels like there are a number of things that CadHub lacks that would be really helpful before wider adoption. Customizer is helpful and fills a big gap in the community, but it feels lower on the critical list of features for integration.
  • if we could get metadata about the camera for use within fit-to-view would be helpful for us.

  • we agreed to open a project within OpenSCAD for "CadHub integration" with just two or three priorities.
  • can add text cards or issues depending on what need them.
  • @t-paul will setup project with issues.
• there was someone on the mailing list who wants to do a research project, they were asking for using OpenSCAD customizer to "communicate from designers to users", and he referenced CadHub because it should be available relatively soon lol. Could be a good test case for fresh users! To gather info from them would be faster from CadHub than desktop.

Worked On

• talked back and forth with @hrgdavor about customizer stuff
• fixed Safari styling errors #435 and a few other Safari issues
• got social cards working!
  • will adjust font sizes after review
  • started trying to use Netlify Build Functions, but didn't quite work out, needed a special versions of Puppeteer and Chrome Headless, just could not get the setup to work.
  • used html-to-image, doesn't work on Safari, so there are some quirks to figure out.
  • hooks into the featured image capture process to capture the social card at the same time
  • working on solutions for getting the metatags into the head earlier for bots, had to do some frustrating hashing to build proper URLs for it.

Will Work On

• will be available for the OpenSCAD GitHub project setup
• want to clean up and wrap social card work
• want to polish more of the customizer, especially inputs
• will start showing what metadata might look like for OpenSCAD.
• unsure when to release JSCAD, still haven't gotten comment from core maintainer and there are features not merged in our integration.
