Don't upload the created gif to Imgur. This would also mean that an actual .gif file needs to be created locally instead of the now created .webm file which is normally uploaded to Imgur to be converted to a GIF there.
This would also mean that the whole GIF needs to be put into the clipboard instead of just the Imgur link. This makes this issue a lot more difficult.
Adding a GIF to the clipboard is also not operating system agnostic (afaik).
