XDG Not Openning

Perhaps I'm missing something, but attempting to use this on a clean install, I am unable to get XDG to open relevant links. Using command xdg-open https://google.com returns:

Error: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: No such interface “org.freedesktop.portal.OpenURI” on object at path /org/freedesktop/portal/desktop

Is there something I'm missing? I did install from the NixOS installer with gnome, then ran this command, could their be something left from that interfering?

I thought perhaps it's due to one of the portal packages being commented out, but attempting to re enable that causes a failure to build, looking around it seems maybe hyprland enables those by default now which is why it was commented out? Not too sure but it's almost like the xdg mimes.nix isn't applying to the session. It looks like that is where it's being defined, but the live session doesn't show any of those variables
