It would be nice to also release earthbuild binaries to nixpkgs.

I've located the build configuration for earthly in nixpkg: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/master/pkgs/by-name/ea/earthly/package.nix

Assuming nixpkg is open to accepting the change, it should be relatively straight-forward to integrate

Hello @zoedsoupe @konradmalik, I see you are the current maintainers of the earthly nixpkg package.

If you haven't heard, earthly has ceased operations.

This repository is the community fork where we intend to perform ongoing maintenance and development of the software formerly-know-as-earthly.

Are either of you interested in becoming maintainers of the nixpkg for the community fork? Or any tips to share to help us create one?

Hey, yeah, I'll prepare a PR soon.
However, I no longer use Earthly, so it would be nice to have someone from here as well, sooner or later.

@kmannislands am I right that the current binary name is still earthly?

I think the Nixpkgs PR should wait for a proper 0.8.17 release here.

hello @konradmalik glad to hear from you.

At the moment, binary is still named earthly but we intend to change that to earthbuild in v0.8.17 since earthly raised licensing concerns over the naming.

In other releases like homebrew we also include a symlink for compatibility. Not sure if this is possible in nix.

My org uses earthly earthbuild via nix so I'm happy to be listed as an additional maintainer of the pkg.

cool, so sounds like indeed we should wait for 0.8.17. Feel free to ping me here or in the linked PR once that happens.

Symlinks are possible, of course. We can easily provide both earthly and earthbuild. It will be done as a part of this PR.

In order to link you, or anyone else, as a maintainer in nixpkgs, you need to create a proper PR yourself. See this: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/540e8fb1632be5afde393cc203bdb481313a32b8/maintainers/README.md#how-to-become-a-maintainer
It would be easier to do that later, once the initial earthbuild PR is accepted and merged to master.

TBH, maintaining Go packages is easy; most of the updates are generated automatically and can be merged as-is. I can handle that myself. What would be valuable is someone who uses this app through Nix to test it manually from time to time, at least to make sure that all functionality works properly.

I'm "daily driving" this package through nixpkgs along with several others at $day_job so I can definitely surface if it's not working. Cheers
