I run a series of fairly successful online surveys targeted at web developers ( https://stateofjs.com/, https://stateofcss.com/, https://stateofhtml.com/).

They each reach between 5k and 20k respondents, but the issue is that the audience has a heavy male skew (up to 93% male).

This lack of representativeness hurts the survey's credibility and sends a counter-productive message to women, and one of the strategies that have been suggested to alleviate the issue would be to try out different data collection methods as opposed to just convenience sampling (see https://sago.com/en/resources/blog/different-types-of-sampling-techniques-in-qualitative-research/ ).

I am looking for someone to take the lead on this effort. This would be someone who:

  • Has formal research/data science experience and skills
  • Is comfortable being the public face of the effort (writing blog posts, answering questions, etc.)
  • (ideally) is as a woman, since this touches on women's issues.

I imagine we would need to narrow down what exactly your role would entail, but I would like to first learn more about how you would approach the task.

Because of the open-ended nature of the task I'm not quite sure what the budget should be yet. That's another thing I'd be hoping to discuss with any potential candidates.
