Feature request: Allow user to click-and-drag to select multiple boxes at once

There are situations where there's a large number of bounding boxes that don't belong, such as this one:

Everything in the pink box is on the other folio, so I want to delete it. But at the moment, the only way for me to do that is to select and delete one box at a time. It would be a lot faster to just click and drag over the whole region to select all the boxes and delete them all in one go. Then I could do one big delete and I'd be done!

do we think it would make sense to make it so that the user can also move multiple boxes at once using this feature? its a logical thing on paper but i don't know if it would be used in practice

I think moving right now isn't the highest priority as opposed to being able to click and drag over various items to be able to delete them. It would likely be helpful for the user to be able to de-select items that are inside the highlighted portion either by clicking on the highlighted box in the righthand panel (right-click? switch toggle?).

This extends to thinking about the nature of the overlapped items; do we want a visible/invisible toggle for annotation boxes to make sure the correct one is selected or not?

@kyrieb-ekat, what do you mean by a toggle to make sure the correct annotation boxes are selected? Like the right type of box, as in text/neume/staff? Currently the selection tool will select any box, regardless of what the drawing tool is set to draw, and I actually find this very handy.

As for de-selecting items from the mass grabbed items, I would suggest cmd or ctrl+click, either on the box itself on the page, or on its label in the right-hand panel.

Right! I think as the default behavior that's perfect. I'm thinking more like, when in the IC and you're drawing a box over a glyph, and you get the bunch of broken pieces of the glyph, but also accidentally three other things you can't de select/kick out of the box. I was thinking some way to account for this might be handy, than having to just redraw.

okay rereading I see the first part of the question. so there's the boxes and then the panel on the right. I was thinking the panel could be another way to deselect an item, by have a toggle that when it's corresponding to a box being grabbed by a selection tool the toggle turns on. if it's a box we don't want that we can't get behind, we can toggle off the selected item from the right panel without having to hunt it down by moving boxes around on the image
