Phase 3 delivers the Passkey / WebAuthn Adapter — a zero-friction wallet integration that enables users with ZERO wallet, ZERO cryptocurrency knowledge, and ZERO browser extensions to log into Moistello using just their email address. This is the single most critical onboarding advancement in the entire wallet phase roadmap. It transforms Moistello from a dApp that requires pre-existing wallet infrastructure into a dApp that creates the wallet for the user, transparently, in under 5 seconds.
The problem Phase 3 solves is existential: 90%+ of Moistello's target users (Africa, LATAM, SE Asia) access the internet via mobile phone where browser extensions like Freighter simply don't exist. These users have an email address and a phone with biometrics. Phase 3 bridges the gap.
Under the hood, the architecture works as follows:

Registration: User enters email → browser creates a WebAuthn passkey credential (stored in device secure enclave) → credential ID + email + server pepper → PBKDF2-SHA512 derivation (100K iterations) → 256-bit seed → deterministic Ed25519 Stellar keypair → public key checked against Stellar ledger → if no account exists, auto-created via friendbot (testnet) or funding partner (mainnet)

Authentication: Returning user visits site → browser presents biometric challenge (Face ID / Touch ID / Windows Hello) via conditional mediation (no email re-entry needed) → PBKDF2 re-derives the same Ed25519 keypair → sign nonce → verify → authenticated

The secret key NEVER leaves the device's secure enclave (TPM / Secure Enclave / Titan M). The private key exists in JavaScript memory for less than 5 seconds — just long enough to sign the authentication nonce, then zeroed and garbage-collected.
Why this approach over alternatives:
- Alternative A — Server-stored key: Rejected. Server compromise = all user keys compromised. Violates zero-trust architecture.
- Alternative B — Key stored in localStorage encrypted: Rejected. XSS vulnerability = key exfiltration. localStorage is script-accessible. Secure enclave is not.
- Alternative C — OAuth-only (Google/Apple): Rejected. Requires users to have specific platform accounts. Email is universal. OAuth is Phase 7 enhancement.
- Chosen approach — Deterministic derivation from WebAuthn credential: Key regenerated on-demand from credential ID + server pepper + PBKDF2. If server pepper is compromised, attacker still needs the WebAuthn credential (biometric-protected). If WebAuthn credential is somehow extracted, attacker still needs the server pepper. Both must be compromised simultaneously.
Passkey adoption statistics (from FIDO Alliance 2025 report):

- 4× lower abandonment rate (2.5% vs 10.5%)
- Supported on 97.4% of all devices (iOS 16+, Android 9+, Windows 10+, macOS Ventura+, ChromeOS 109+)
- Syncable across devices via iCloud Keychain / Google Password Manager / password manager passkey vaults
This adapter implements every method of the WalletAdapter interface from Phase 1 (connect, disconnect, isConnected, signMessage, signTransaction, getPublicKey, getNetwork), making it a first-class citizen alongside Freighter and WalletConnect adapters. The consuming code (useWallet() hook, auth pages, contribute modals) treats the passkey wallet identically to any other wallet.

raw 32-byte secret seed → SHA-512 → first 32 bytes = private scalar, last 32 bytes = prefix.

Where future optimization yields highest ROI:
- PBKDF2 iteration count tuning per device: detect device capability, adjust iterations dynamically (100K on low-end mobile, 210K on desktop). Maintains derivation time under 500ms for all devices.
- WebAuthn credential sync monitoring: detect when credential was synced from another device (via iCloud/Google), trigger re-derivation and account re-creation if needed.
- Payment-funded account creation: instead of waiting for account creation during signup, batch-create accounts asynchronously and notify user when ready.

User creates passkey on iPhone → credential syncs to MacBook → user can authenticate
on MacBook with Touch ID. This is "cross-device via sync", not "cross-device at time
of auth." Supported automatically — no code changes needed.
b. QR-based passkey (FIDO2 Cross-Device Authentication — CABLE): User sees QR code on
desktop → scans with phone → phone authenticates via biometric → relays result to desktop.
