Fixed 3 Problems in Retirement Form Implementation

Problems Identified and Fixed

1. Missing Import for RetireConfirmModal ✅

Problem: The RetireConfirmModal component was being used in the JSX but wasn't imported at the top of the file.

Fix: Added the import statement:

import RetireConfirmModal from "../../components/RetireConfirmModal";

Location: frontend/app/retire/page.tsx line 15

2. Duplicate inputStyle Definition ✅

Problem: The inputStyle constant was defined twice:

  • Once at line 91 (global scope)
  • Again at line 672 (inside the main component function)

This caused a shadowing issue where the inner definition would override the outer one.

Fix: Removed the duplicate definition inside the component function (line 672-678), keeping only the global definition.

Why it matters: Duplicate definitions can cause confusion, increase bundle size, and may lead to inconsistent styling if the definitions differ.

3. Unused Step Components (Code Bloat) ✅

Problem: The file contained several unused Step components (Step1, Step2, Step3, Step4, Step5) and related code that were never actually used in the rendering:

  • StepIndicator component
  • Step1 through Step5 components
  • STEPS array constant
  • labelStyle, primaryBtn, secondaryBtn style definitions
  • Step type definition

These components were part of a wizard-style flow that wasn't implemented in the main page.

Fix: Removed all unused step components and their associated helper functions to clean up the codebase.

Why it matters:

  • Reduces file size and improves maintainability
  • Eliminates confusion about which code is actually active
  • Prevents potential naming conflicts
  • Improves code readability

Verification

All fixes have been applied and verified:

✅ No TypeScript errors - get_diagnostics returns clean ✅ Single inputStyle definition - Grep search confirms only one instance ✅ RetireConfirmModal imported - Component now properly imported ✅ Clean codebase - Removed ~400 lines of unused code

Current State

The retirement form now has:

  • ✅ All required imports
  • ✅ No duplicate definitions
  • ✅ Clean, focused code without unused components
  • ✅ Full validation functionality as per acceptance criteria
  • ✅ Character limits enforced (beneficiary: 100 chars, reason: 500 chars)
  • ✅ Inline validation with error messages
  • ✅ onBlur and onSubmit validation
  • ✅ Freighter signing protection

Files Modified

  1. frontend/app/retire/page.tsx - Fixed all 3 problems
  2. Previous fixes remain intact:
    • backend/src/credits/credits.dto.ts - Character limit updates
    • frontend/lib/api.ts - Defensive validation
