TFT_eSPI can be used with the Core 2 providing the user adds code to their sketch to correctly configure the AXP192 controller that provides power to the backlight. Refer to the M5Stack Core 2 documentation for details.
The TFT_eSPI library and examples do not include the code required to drive the AXP192 controller. There is some example code here, however I have not tested it and do not have a Core 2 to try it or provide support.
