Problem with exclude option inside the toml config file

Dear wonderful developers of this tool,
We started using this tool in our project, but we found an issue since we are using the project.toml file. We saw this when we added the exclude option to diff_cover, which means no new changes were added.

Diff Coverage
Diff: origin/main...HEAD, staged and unstaged changes

No lines with coverage information in this diff.

Do you know what might be the reason, and what we can do?

I dont really have much to go on here. Can you reproduce this in a small repo? What was the exclude option you included?
