When initiating the load wizard there is a pop-up asking for the credentials of an (irrelevant) PostGIS connection that I have saved in QGIS. I think that's unnecessary, as the connection can happen later on (if PostGIS is selected as the destination of a relational loading of a GML file).

Never had that issue. Which versions QGIS, plugin & al. are you using ?

I am in MacOS Mojave and have the homebrew installed (compiled) version.
