[Task] UI rewrite v2 Area C: home surface modular rollout

Rewrite the home surface without repeating the home-page interaction regressions exposed by PR #589.

Scope

In scope:

• Session list / recent sessions.
• Entry CTAs.
• Empty state.
• Home-specific layout.

Out of scope:

• Message flow behavior beyond shared dependencies.
• Right panel, settings, or shell work from other areas.

Constraints:

• This was the surface PR refactor(session): rewrite session view per W1 visual lock for slice 11b.1 #589 regressed most badly.
• PR0 perf gate is non-negotiable here.
• If Area A changes shared rendering used by home, home must be re-measured.

Verification

• Every Area C PR passes [Task] UI rewrite v2 PR0: perf-gated regression CI #600.
• The first PR starts from an audit of the home entry surface and shared preview dependencies.
• The 5-minute visual pass in docs/design/session-view-w1-manual-checklist.md passes for home.

W5 home surface — design + 3-slice inventory

This inventory enumerates the work needed to align the session-less landing with the W5 design intent (DESIGN.md 2026-05-12 § Home page, preview docs/design/preview/home.html). Compiled after a three-way audit (preview / DESIGN.md / dev main) against current dev HEAD 10ae5fbb4.

Background

Current dev state — two homes, one of them dead

Dev currently ships two distinct "home" surfaces:

1. packages/app/src/pages/home.tsx (139 lines) — routed at /. Renders a Logo + server picker + recent-projects list + empty state. Users never reach it. First launch is captured at the desktop shell layer: the Electron webContents persists the last URL, and the backend defaults the workspace to ~/PawWork (resolved at packages/opencode/src/server/instance/middleware.ts:52, path.join(os.homedir(), "PawWork"), ensured at L64). Every subsequent boot opens directly into the session route for that resolved path, bypassing /. The recent-projects switcher the user actually uses lives inside the composer as WorkspaceChip, not on the home page.
2. packages/app/src/components/session/session-new-view.tsx (59 lines) — the de-facto home, rendered by the session route when no session id is present. Shows an h1 (session.new.title), the composer, and three skill cards (document-processing / data-analysis / writing-assistant). This is what users see when they create a session-less surface.

W5 collapses these two into one surface — the session-less route — and removes pages/home.tsx entirely.

Skill cards — full removal, no functionality loss

The three skill cards on session-new-view.tsx are UI shortcuts to slash commands. The slash commands themselves live in the backend (packages/opencode/test/skill/skill.test.ts L414-433 confirms three productivity skills are bundled and discoverable; L443+ covers their clarify-execute-verify workflow and locale guidance). After removing the cards, users can still type /document-processing, /data-analysis, /writing-assistant in the composer to invoke the same skill. No backend or skill content changes.

The card-related UI plumbing crosses 14 files because the slash-command override path (buildHomeOverride) was threaded through the composer submit pipeline. All of it gets removed in PR2.

Why three slices

Each slice is independently reviewable and locally verifiable; together they reach the locked W5 visual. Slices are strictly serial within this issue (no parallel PRs).

Deviations from the W5 design source

DESIGN.md 2026-05-12 L525-538 and preview docs/design/preview/home.html both currently describe a richer surface than this work will ship. The deviations below are deliberate product calls; a single doc-sync follow-up updates both DESIGN.md and the preview in one commit after PR3 ships, per docs/design/AGENTS.md ("不允许只改 DESIGN.md 不动 preview").

DESIGN.md L531 token name: cites --type-h1 (28/1.2 weight 500) for the heading	Use --type-display per preview L83	DESIGN.md L205-206 defines --type-display as 28/130 weight 500 and --type-h1 as 20/130 weight 500. The "28" value in L531 matches --type-display, not --type-h1 — L531 has a token-name bug. Preview is self-consistent. Fix lands in the doc-sync follow-up.
DESIGN.md L532 meta-line tokens: --type-caption + --fg-weak; preview L102-103: --type-mono-small + --fg-base	Use preview values (--type-mono-small + --fg-base)	When the meta line is reduced to a single clickable path button, the more prominent mono/base treatment communicates "this is the cwd, click to switch" better than the subtle caption/weak treatment. Doc-sync picks preview.

Skill cards on session-new-view.tsx are not mentioned in DESIGN.md § Home page (the "Forbidden on Home" paragraph at L538 enumerates project-picker grids, workspace tiles, recent-sessions, marketing copy, splash logos, mascot, time-of-day greetings — cards were never in spec). Removing them is alignment, not deviation.

Verification: Electron boot from clean state lands on the session route for the resolved ~/PawWork path. Boot with stale webContents URL pointing to / redirects through to the same target. No flash of home content.

The three skill cards on session-new-view.tsx and their composer-submit override path. No visual replacement; the composer's existing rotating placeholder covers the "give-me-an-idea" affordance.

Backend untouched. Slash commands /document-processing, /data-analysis, /writing-assistant continue to work from the composer; bundled-skill discovery test stays green.

Verification: Electron home shows h1 + composer + no cards. Typing /document-processing in composer still triggers the productivity skill. E2E: extend session-new spec to assert the card region is absent and slash invocation still routes through normal session creation.

3. Home shell rewrite — hero (h1 + meta-path) + composer

Final visual lands on PR2's clean baseline. session-new-view.tsx becomes the W5 hero column.

Vertical centre layout strategy: container is min-height: 100% flex column with justify-content: center. Avoid position: absolute / translateY(-50%) (composer would overflow on short windows). On viewport height < (hero stack height + 64px top/bottom safety), fall back to flex-start with top padding 32 to keep the hero on-screen.

Verification: Electron from clean boot lands directly on this surface (PR1 redirect). Path text reflects the resolved ~/PawWork. Click on meta-path opens the popover; choosing another workspace navigates to /<base64>/session. Composer submission creates a session and transitions in place. Hero composition (h1 + meta-path + composer, both light and dark) matches the preview's deviated subset — branch, last-opened, and starters from the original preview are deliberately absent per the deviations table.

Out-of-scope for this issue

• Branch indicator in titlebar and right-pane (separate future cuts).
• Last-opened indicator on home (dropped; not coming back).
• Static starters list (dropped; if revived later, content becomes memory-driven personalised).
• DESIGN.md + preview reconciliation (centre, path-only meta, no starters, --type-display token name on L531). Single doc-sync commit after PR3 ships.

Decision-trail

• Hero centre vs bias-up — chose centre after live preview comparison (docs/design/scratch/i603-home-padding-compare.html).
• WorkspaceChip popover migration — extract content as WorkspacePopover, anchor from meta-path; delete the chip wrapper entirely in PR3 (no dead code carried forward).
• Skill cards removal — full removal; slash command path preserved (backend bundle untouched).
• 3-cut sequence — strictly serial; PR1 dead-code redirect → PR2 cleanup → PR3 rewrite. Avoids merging visible changes on top of a dead-code branch.

Copy reconciliation

H1 copy diverged across our sources. PR3 picks the preview wording for both locales (winner highlighted):
