Issue with flashing aosp image; error "not enough space to resize partition"

Hi! I get to the end of step 3 where I flash the aosp image, and I get the error: Resizing 'system_a' FAILED (remote: 'Not enough space to resize partition')
fastboot: error: Command failed

i have the surface duo 1. did not run into any problems with prior steps.
