Date only shows when manually executing waybar

I have this problem in wayland. I have the date and time in the center, but it shows up unless i start waybar manually. i tried creating a script and running that at startup with hyprland exec-once but its the same story. running the script manually works just fine, and there is no error as far as i can tell.

oh and my dotfiles are public on my profile. i cannot for the live of me figure out why this doesnt work.
