Power-profiles-daemon plugin fails to update profile status when using tuned as the driver

tuned-ppd works mostly fine and cycling though profile works well.
However it does not get automatically updated.
I.e.: it shows power profile: performance when at the moment it has changed to:

> tuned-adm active
Current active profile: balanced

Only when reloading waybar the value gets updated.
