CTE Expo 2026 Project Presentation, May 21st, A101
Expectations and Preparation
Preparation
Before attending, I expected a more formal demo presentation where my team and I would go through our project and get feedback along with opportunities. To prepare for this, we organized our files and our project, made a script, and rehearsed. Part of our rehearsal was practice going through the project itself and showing each feature in an organized way, which did help in the presentation. However, a lot of the time we spent planning the order of things was a waste, since it is very difficult to control that in a 15 minute presentation without managing each minute.
Wants
What we wanted going into this event was a chance to showcase and get feedback on our project, get new ideas that we could use, and form connections with people that have expertise in their fields.
Panelists
Arlene Mordeno (Accenture and CCOE), Bhanu Karuturi (Women in Transportation), Dr. Douglass Fenner (Modern Railway Systems).
This variety of panelists who all had experience in related yet different fields that were similar to our project's direction was very good for us, and each of them brought new insights that we will incorporate.
Results
Thankfully, we were able to acquire a lot of feedback and new ideas from this event. Here are a few main ones:
- Try to partner with San Diego County
- Use traffic data obtained from our website to inform people of dangerous roads / intersections and in other creative ways
- Improve website security, especially if we want to expand
Some feedback were things we had considered already, such as improving website security, but it was very helpful to get new ideas and suggestions for people to contact. Also, we were able to get the contact information of all of our panelists, so we are looking forward to working with them in the future as well.
Takeaways
We learned a lot from this event in multiple areas. First of all, the time we spent preparing was a good experience, since we haven't done a lot of joint presentations for this project and these presentations are slightly different from ones you would do in school. Secondly, at the very start, it was clear that the meeting was going to be much more conversational and discussion-like rather than a formal presentation. One thing that showed that was how both sides introduced themselves, as we were trying to form genuine connections so it was best for everyone to get to know each other. Lastly, managing time during the presentation was something we could have improved on, and looking back on that and understanding that fact is something that will be beneficial in the future.
