we're working on question 1.4, and in formula 511, we're looking for where to derive W. I know it's a square channel, and we can assume H=W, but we haven't solved for H yet. should we just leave it as (designQm_max/design.H) in that portion of the equation for the time being and move on?

also, in 2.1, I'm just confused how to incorporate GT_min into the equation. is it supposed to be something like

design.TI_bod = design.G_bod/design.GT_min

Don't forget that this is a horizontal-horizontal flocculator and so what variables you are looking for might not match exactly the naming you are looking for! You should initially be calculating S and then setting something equal to that (b/c square channel).

You have the right idea for 2.1 but check your units to see if that gives you the units you are looking for

Well Since it is a Square Channel. That means that Width is the same as the height? and the Height of the is equal the Freeboard and the Depth of the water? But how would we get to the depth of water? Unless I am analyzing this incorrectly?

In the square case you have an equation for S which is the space between baffles (like T in your drawing). And you know the flow is square.

I am not sure what you mean by the flow is square?

The dimension that the water occupies [in the directions perpendicular to the main direction of flow (between two baffles)] has width and height that are the same.

OH so would S be the same as the Width? So could we replace width with S?

FOr the square case (and only for the square case) once you calculate S you can use that same result to define W.

You will still need to define a another variable W which will allow you to cover both cases when the channel is square and when it is not. You can explicitly set the variables for the square condition, as you have already determined, but the If statement is to cover the case when then square channel does not fit the needs of the design (when w is smaller than the minimum outlet) in which case you need to redefine w and s based on the needs.

(Think of the square channel as the first guess on a moody diagram, if it wasn't the right guess, it gives us better information to iterate on as we move forward)

So after the if Statement, I should be setting design.W to equal design.S but then what should I set design S as? I am not sure that I am understanding

So before the if statement you are assuming a square channel. Inside the If statement you need to make a different assumption
