Waydroid Helper getting stuck on "Preparing to download system image"

I have a OnePlus 5t that is running 20.04 (focal).
After I put in my passcode, the device gets stuck on "Preparing to download system image".
The whole application freezes when this happens, and does not let me go back in the application.
The only way to get the program usable again is to exit the application and reenter.

I have tried switching off of Wifi to Cellular only, but the issue remains.

Any help is appreciated!

This is also happening to me on a Fairphone 2 running 16.04 (xenial). It gets through installing the package, then gets stuck on "Preparing to download system image". If I click the "back" button at top-left, it becomes grey, but there is no other change. I left it in a "preparing..." state overnight and it made no progress.

Sorry for taking so long, please provide logs of the app when this happens (journalctl on focal, logfile in ~/.cache on xenial, or use the LogViewer app) - there are a few things that can go wrong there.

Now that I know it's there, I can see the problem: You don't have enough free space in /var/cache/apt/archives/. If this was a normal Ubuntu system I'd know what to do about this, but I don't understand the containerised approach ubports uses.

@Haidafraid your problem most certainly is different than the rest of the reports on this issue (that being Waydroid missing official support for Android 12+ devices), see https://gitlab.com/ubports/porting/reference-device-ports/halium12/volla-x23/volla-vidofnir/-/issues/1 in case you didn't come across it yet
