Render Entity Names?

Hi all,

I noticed that HTML names characters are rendered out into their symbols when used in markdown.

Here is my basic situation: I have some very long words that do not break well when I set hyhen:auto in css. The easiest solution is to just use ­ or soft hyphen. This works very fine in my templates, but if I render it from a markdown page via {{ content | safe }} will be rendered out: ­ becomes ­- (using a dash here as this is how the invisible character is represented in my text editor).
Is there any way from stopping this? It is not an issue, really, just annoying.

I tried {% raw %} but that did not solve it.
